I TAKE A SIP FROM MY coffee as I stare out at the skyline outside my office, one hand shoved into the pocket of my slacks, trying not to think about the semi next to it. For that alone, I’ll punish her. Not for lying to me, or for dancing in front of all those men for years, or for keeping her alter-ego from me, but for what she makes me feel for her. She has my heart in her grip, even though she doesn’t know it, and I’ll make her as dependent on me as I am on her.

Damn, I couldn’t even hate her. Even as my heart was breaking while watching her in that cage, she was mesmerizing. The fluid way in which her body moved, the talent channeled into her limbs, it went down my veins like heroin.

When I failed to fuck other women, I got into a bar fight. Now, with my face all over the media, I expect a few lawsuits from assholes who want to make a quick buck, but it’s not like I give a fuck. What mattered to me in the moment was getting that damn anger off my chest, from the pain that she’d shared herself with other people.

All the money, the influence, the power, they don’t mean jack shit to me when compared to Adalia. I would give it all up in a heartbeat for her. I would live in a cave with her if I had to, I’d make fires and go hunting, put babies in her belly and raise them with her.

Fuck. I’m a sucker for this woman–something she can never know.

The panel on my desk buzzes. It’s Lloyd.

“Sir, Lord Declan Santori here to see you.”

My chief of staff is the one who announces my visits now.
